Public Authority for Electricity and Water

The Authority coordinates with PAEW a range of policy issues. PAEW has assumed responsibility for the electricity and related water functions assigned to MHHEW in the Sector Law.

Legal Institutions (Supreme Court, Judges and Public Prosecutor's Office):

• The Authority hosted a seminar for legal institutions and senior representatives of the judiciary to introduce the Authority and explain legal provisions of the sector law and the overlap with the Oman legal system.
• The Authority notifies and coordinates with the Public Prosecutor’s Office (PPO) when undertaking serious incident inquiries (such inquiries were conducted in 2006 and 2007), and provides PPO with inquiry conclusions.

Royal Oman Police (ROP):

• A joint ROP – Authority team was established to prepare new Emergency Procedure for the sector. The new procedures are expected to be implemented in 2008.
• ROP and the Authority recently conducted inspections of licensed production facilities to confirm compliance with national security requirements.

Ministry of Environment and Water Resources:

The Authority coordinates with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs on matters of environmental compliance. An Authority initiative has improved emissions monitoring at licensed production facilities.

Ministry of Manpower:

The Authority coordinates with the Ministry of Manpower on the electricity and related water sector’s Omanisation obligations and health and safety policy.

Ministry of National Economy, & Electricity Holding Company:

The Authority worked closely with the Ministry of National Economy and the Electricity Holding Company on the privatisation of Rusail, and during the process of privatizing the Sur desalination facility.
