Economic and Financial Affairs Directorate
The Economic and Financial Affairs Directorate is responsible for the economic and financial regulation of the electricity and related water sector.
Economic regulation allows the Authority to influence the economic principles on which the electricity and related water sector operates. These principles are designed to improve efficiency and constrain costs assessed against benchmark service quality standards.
The Authority constrains the exercise of market power through economic regulation such as the enforcement of economic purchase conditions and direct intervention to approve the pricing structures of electricity and water bulk supply tariffs and charges for connection and use of licenced systems. The principal instrument of economic regulation is RPI-X type price controls.
